Ingredients

  • 1 pound 450g fresh strawberries, stems on
  • 8 ounces 225g semisweet or dark chocolate, chopped, or chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil optional
  • 2 ounces 55g white chocolate, for drizzle, optional
  • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts or sprinkles optional

Equipment

  • 1 Double boiler or heatproof bowl
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper

Method

  1. Wash and dry the strawberries. Rinse the strawberries under cool water, then pat them completely dry with paper towels. Let them sit on a dry towel for at least 10 minutes so any remaining surface moisture evaporates, and let them come to room temperature if they were refrigerated.
  2. Line a tray. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This is where the dipped strawberries will set, so make sure it fits in the refrigerator.
  3. Melt the chocolate. Place the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pot of barely simmering water, making sure the bowl doesn't touch the water. Stir occasionally until fully melted and smooth, about 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in the coconut oil if using.

Notes

Dry the strawberries completely before dipping. Best served within a few hours of dipping for the glossiest shell.
